Rhode Island Statewide Databases Trial
April 3d through May 31st 2008

What is a Database?

This state-wide trial of databases is brought to you by the Special Legislative Commission to Study the Strengths and Weaknesses of Library Services in the State of Rhode Island. Please support this 8 week Rhode Island state-wide trial of databases, by spreading the word to your local legislative leaders. Help make Rhode Island one of the 48 states that provides state-wide databases. For more information about this web-site contact Robert Aspri, Executive Director of the HELIN Library Consortium.

WHY 48 STATES SEE STATEWIDE DATABASES AS A WIN/WIN?

Levels The Playing Field!

  • Provides all citizens with "one-stop" access to millions of information items at home, at work, at school or in the library!

  • Promotes academic excellence by providing quality research materials!

  • Supports education, life-long learning and literacy state-wide.

Cost Effective!

  • Encourages economic growth by providing cutting-edge information for business, education, and healthcare.

  • State-wide purchasing will provide "economies of scale" resulting in competitive pricing that benefits education, healthcare, and business.

  • 48 states already provide their citizens with this type of state-wide database access.  Rhode Island needs to be one of those states.  (see the chart on the right).
